Known as the “Emerald Isle,” Orcas is the largest of the San Juan Islands and is an absolute dream for travelers who love the outdoors—but don't necessarily want to give up great food, cozy accommodations, and a little luxury along the way.

Orcas Island feels different from a typical beach vacation.

🚢 Getting to Orcas Island
For most visitors, the journey begins in Anacortes, Washington, where you'll catch a Washington State Ferry to Orcas Island.
And don't think of the ferry as simply transportation.
It's part of the adventure.
As you leave Anacortes behind, the scenery opens up into the spectacular waters of the Salish Sea, with islands appearing around you.

If you're bringing your vehicle, plan your ferry reservation carefully, especially during the busy summer season.
Ferry schedules and reservation requirements can change, so this is one part of your trip where a little advance planning can save you a lot of stress. This was the part that stressed me out the most, but let my stress help you. 😉
🏔️ Mount Constitution
If there is one place you absolutely shouldn't skip on Orcas Island, it's Mount Constitution.
Located within Moran State Park, Mount Constitution rises nearly 2,400 feet above sea level and offers some of the most spectacular views in the San Juan Islands.
From the summit, you can see:

Moran State Park is one of Orcas Island's biggest treasures.
With thousands of acres of forests, lakes, waterfalls, and trails, it's the perfect place to experience the island's wild side.
You can spend an entire day exploring—or simply choose a trail, pack a picnic, and enjoy a few quiet hours surrounded by nature.

Don't plan every minute of your Eastsound visit.
Some of the best island memories happen when you simply wander into a shop or café that wasn't on your itinerary. AND they have awesome candy shops with my favorite Chocolate-Covered Gummy Bears!!!

Orcas Island isn't necessarily about sprawling sandy beaches.
Instead, you'll discover rocky shorelines, hidden coves, driftwood, forests, and beautiful viewpoints over the water.
Pack a jacket, grab a coffee, and find somewhere to sit.
Sometimes the best vacation activity is doing absolutely nothing.
